Some more shots taken during the weekend at PPIR '01
Ahh, the legendary Doug Chandler. Here he was being as nice as ever, taking
a few moments out to talk to me quickly and to take a quick picture. He had
just gotten finished takling to Earl Hayden, Tommy and Nicky's dad. Oh yeah,
Roger Lee too. He was as self depreciating as ever. After I had mentioned that
he led basically the entire practice and qualifying sessions from the day
before, he thought that it wouldn't matter too much because the weather changed
(from cloudy and overcast with a shower, to hot and sunny). It didn't matter.
He is still my winner of the race that weekend. He was sandbagging to let Eric
Bostrom score more points. Nicky Hayden won.
For my thoughts on this man, please check out my Doug Chandler got screwed page.
Little did he know, this would be one of his last superbike races on a
Kawasaki.
This picture sums up my general thoughts on this place. The setting is very
beautiful, yet they point you so you are looking out in the direction of
Kansas (and if the earth wasn't curved, you'd see Kansas from there). The
mountains are behind you when you sit in the grandstand.
The track isn't all that interesting either, other than the first turn where
it takes some courage to go in there fast, and the ones that do are usually
in the front of the pack. They need a better infield section.
